Physical Education (PE)

At St. Johns C of E Primary, we aim to deliver high quality P.E opportunities through the development of our own staff and an expert P.E specialist. We want children to enjoy physical education and to value the importance of being fit and healthy which will lead to a healthier future.

Starting in Reception, we focus on fundamental movement skills and promote a healthy lifestyle through our curriculum. Every child will have access to a range of extra-curricular clubs as well as two P.E lessons a week in which they can learn, compete and enjoy a range of different opportunities.

We also aim to get the children as active as possible throughout the school day. We use Imoves to enable us to have active breaks when needed which helps enables children to have time to move and refocus for the next part of their learning. We also provide a range of equipment and activities during unstructured times and complete the daily mile challenge as often as possible throughout the week.

Through our approach, we allow children to develop core transferrable skills in KS1 (core strength, balance, coordination and agility) so they can use these in specific sports in Upper KS2. We continue to be part of the School Sport Partnership which allows us to provide competitive activities inclusive to all children.

We believe that good physical, mental and emotional health will enable a child to focus on their learning both in and outside of the classroom. Through our core values love, friendship, forgiveness and truthfulness, we not only focus on the physical health of the children but also the way in which they interact with others through physical education, which will develop the child holistically and embed these values for the future.
