Welcome To Year 2

Welcome to Year 2. The teachers are Mrs Finlay  (2FH) and Mrs Goodyear and Mrs Henworth (2GH) and we are supported by TAs Mrs Oldham (2FH) and Mrs Crumpton (2GH).

Year 2 is a big change for your child as they move across to the main school building. It is an exciting year, packed full with new challenges and a wide variety of learning opportunities. Your child will be encouraged to work a little more independently and take responsibility for themselves and their belongings, including ensuring that their water bottle is in the classroom and their reading books are put into the correct place where they need to be changed.

Throughout Year 2,  from learning about the work of famous artists to studying changes in our town over time, from developing practical skills in Design and Technology activities to locating and finding out about different countries around the world, we aim to instil a love for learning though our broad curriculum.

The children will read and listen to a variety of texts to immerse them in a rich vocabulary which will in turn inspire their own writing. Through carefully selected texts for English work and class readers, we will encourage the children to talk about books and develop a love for reading.

We firmly believe that parents and carers who are actively involved with their child’s education and learning enable better progress and we appreciate any and all support that you are able to give to your children. It really does make a difference to the progress that we see in the classroom. Throughout Year 2 your child will be given books to read regularly and homework will be given in the form of a grid with suggested activities linked to our topics which are suitable for a range of learning styles. At the end of each half term, your child will have the opportunity to talk about their homework in a ‘Show and tell’ session.

We are always available at the end of the school day if you have any questions.
