Our art curriculum is designed to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art. We want them to know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of their experiences.

The children will have the opportunity to:

  • To develop ideas and produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences.
  • Master techniques including: drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, print and textiles.
  • Learn about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms in relation to their locality.
  • Evaluate and analyse creative works of great using the language of art, craft and design.

Autumn

    Painting and printing

Spring
  • Use pattern and explore drawing tools including: pastels and crayons to create rubbings
Summer
  • Clay work:
    Make hedgehogs using rolling, cutting and pinching techniques

Year 2

Autumn
  • William Morris:
    Mono and block printing

Spring
  • Monet:
    Draw using light and shade and compare sketches

Summer
  • Clay work:
    Make hedgehogs using rolling, cutting and pinching techniques

Year 3

Autumn
  • Pollock:
    Drip and splatter printing

Spring
  • Da Vinci:
    Draw faces using a variety of pencils to create different shades and tones

Summer
  • Paper Mache :
    Make insects by experimenting with different methods of construction

Year 4

Autumn
  • Van Gogh:
    Draw using scale and proportion and painting

Spring
  • Owen Mortensen:
    Print using manmade and natural objects to create an image

Summer
  • Modroc:
    Make butterflies and develop different methods of construction. Experience surface, patterns and texture

Year 5

Autumn
  • Andy Warhol:
    Sketch faces using perspective and using contrasting colour combinations to print

Spring
  • Mondrian:
    Use colour and pattern to create abstract pieces of art

Summer
  • Wire Flowers:
    Shape, form, model and join using different materials

Year 6

Autumn
  • Picasso:
    Sketch faces changing and adapting the perspective and proportion and using contrasting colours to paint

Spring
  • Screen printing:
    Use images created to screen print onto material (linked to year 6 production)

Summer
  • Clay birds:
    Use a variety of joining techniques, shape, carve and add detail to bird using the correct tools
